The District 106 Training site is open to members of IUOE Local 158 in good standing as well as District 106 registered apprentices.

  • Always dress for work conditions at the training center. Boots, hard hats, and safety glasses are essential. No sneakers or casual
    clothing are acceptable for outdoor training.
  • You must be current on your monthly dues.
  • All classes start promptly at 7:00 AM.
  • Sign up for classes by calling the site or union hall, faxing a class sign-up sheet, or use the calendar to register.
  • Be sure to indicate which date you are coming, if more than one is offered.

You must complete:

  • 432 training hours
  • 4,100 hours working for a signatory contractor

The average apprentice completes our program in 4 years.

IUOE Local 158 Training Fund will be holding a periodic recruitment to recruit two (2) apprentice heavy equipment operators. 

Applications can be obtained starting Monday June 29, 2026, in person only, from IUOE Local 158 Training Fund, 44 Hannay Lane, Glenmont, NY 12077, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for 10 business days, or until 50 applications have been received, whichever comes first. This is a limited-application recruitment.  Only 50 applications will be distributed, on a first-come, first-serve basis. The recruitment will be offered for 10 business days or until 50 applications have been issuedwhichever comes first. Applications Must be completed on the premises. 

All applicants must be received by July 10, 2026.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof is required at the time of acceptance into the program.
  • Must be able to read, understand and hear verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
  • Must have a minimum of one year of trade related experience OR must have completed a construction related pre-apprenticeship OR must have successfully completed a construction related training program.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work as determined by signed affidavit which will include:
    • Must be able to lift heavy objects.
    • Working in confined spaces
    • Working with and/or operating hazardous machinery.
    • Working in extreme dust conditions, extreme heat, or cold or damp weather.
    • Must be willing and able to work over water and from heights,
    • Must be able to be exposed to loud noises or respiratory irritants.
  • Must live within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #158 for at least six months prior to this recruitment.  This includes the counties of:  Albany, Broome, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Tioga, Warren, and Washington.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites in Local Union #106’s jurisdiction and required classes at sponsor’s training center.
  • Must pass a drug/alcohol screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship. May be subject to random drug testing at any time during apprenticeship.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles. Proof required at the time of acceptance.
